Politics shouldn’t divide us — bared teeth and high-pitched screaming should
No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, something we probably all can agree on is that our nation feels more divided than before. That’s a problem, and it’s one we’ve made together — which means it’s one we’ll have to solve together, too.

Having individual politics is what makes our country unique and strong like a rock. It should not be something that is dividing us. Rather, what should be dividing us is aggressive displays of bared teeth and high-pitched screeching to assert dominance and determine our societies.
Many of us fall into the trap of excusing our current divide by saying things like, “It’s a contentious time.” But the truth is there have been many contentious times in our nation — what’s changed is the way we treat each other. Silencing each other, calling each other names. These are not the ways a country moves forward. What we should be doing is throwing large rocks into the river to produce a terrifying splash, or bunching our lips into a scowl.
